OSSLT results: release dates, the student report and pass rates

OSSLT results come in two forms: each student’s Individual Student Report, and the provincial results EQAO publishes once a year. This guide covers when both come out, what the report shows, how many students pass, and how to look up a school’s or board’s results.

When do OSSLT results come out?

For the 2026–27 school year, EQAO releases results after each test window:

• Fall 2026 window (November 3 to 30, 2026): results by the end of January 2027.

• Spring 2027 window (March 30 to April 19, 2027): results by the end of May 2027.

Results go to schools first, and each student gets an Individual Student Report from their school. If yours hasn’t arrived, ask at the school. EQAO’s provincial results for the 2025–26 school year were published in September 2026. The OSSLT dates page has the full 2026–27 calendar.

What the Individual Student Report shows

The report gives one literacy score, covering reading and writing, on a scale from 200 to 400, and says whether the outcome is successful or not yet successful. A score of 300 or higher is a successful result, and it is not a percentage.

Students who are not yet successful also get general feedback on what to work on. Students who were absent, deferred or exempted, or who met the requirement through the literacy course, receive a statement instead of a score. OSSLT pass rates

In the 2025–26 school year, 156,063 students in English-language schools fully participated in the OSSLT. Of the 132,563 first-time eligible students who wrote it, 86% were successful. Of the 23,500 previously eligible students, those writing it again, 49% were successful.

Here are the success rates for the last three school years, from EQAO’s provincial highlights for English-language schools:

• First-time eligible students: 85% in 2023–24, 85% in 2024–25 and 86% in 2025–26.

• Previously eligible students: 52% in 2023–24, 50% in 2024–25 and 49% in 2025–26.

• First-time students in Grade 10 academic English: 90%, 91% and 92%.

• First-time students in Grade 10 applied English: 58%, 60% and 61%.

• First-time students with special education needs (excluding gifted): 63%, 63% and 65%.

• First-time English language learners: 63%, 61% and 58%.

Most students pass on their first attempt, but students writing it again have a much harder time, and the gap has widened for English language learners. How to find a school’s or board’s OSSLT results

EQAO’s results page lets you choose all of Ontario, a school board or a single school, then view the OSSLT results for that choice. Search by name, address or postal code. EQAO also publishes school-level results as open data.

What to do after the results

A successful result meets the literacy requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. A student who is not yet successful can write the OSSLT again in a later window. After two opportunities with at least one result of not yet successful, they can take the literacy course, OLC4O, instead.
